Two Factor Authentication

Two Factor Authentication

Two Two-factor authentication is an important security enhancement that will soon be implemented to protect our District's Google e-mail system. In our continuous efforts to safeguard sensitive information and ensure the highest level of data security, we will be implementing Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for staff email accounts.

Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your email login process, requiring you to provide two forms of identification: your regular password and a unique, time-sensitive verification code. This additional step will significantly reduce the risk of unauthorized access to your email account, protecting both your personal information and confidential District/student data.

Here's what you can expect during the transition to Two-Factor Authentication:

Enrollment Process: In the coming weeks, you will receive an email containing instructions on how to enroll in Two-Factor Authentication. The process will be simple and user-friendly, guiding you through the necessary steps to set up your 2FA preferences.

Verification Methods: You will have the option to choose from different verification methods, such as receiving the verification code via text message, a mobile authenticator app, or a phone call.  Please choose the method that is most convenient and accessible for you.

Login Experience: After the implementation of 2FA, when logging into your email account, you will be prompted to enter your password as usual. Following that, you will be prompted to provide the verification code generated by your chosen method. This will be an additional step to ensure the security of your account.  This process will begin when you first log into your District device or any other computer or phone.   Once you authenticate on the device you will not need to re-authenticate for 90 days.   If you log into another device or clear your history, it will prompt you to authenticate at that time.  This will also occur for any website that uses your Google credentials, such as Classwize.

Backup Options:  We strongly recommend registering multiple verification methods as backup options.   In case you lose access to one method (e.g., your mobile number changes) having alternate options will allow you to still have access to your email account without any disruption.

Training and Support: To assist you throughout this transition, we will provide detailed training videos and support documentation on the Technology web page, and in an email leading up to the start of school. Additionally, our IT team will be available to address any questions or concerns you may have regarding Two-Factor Authentication.

We understand that adopting new security measures may require some adjustment, but we believe that the implementation of Two-Factor Authentication is crucial to protect our Districts sensitive information and will keep the District in compliance with State regulations.
