About the Positivity Project

The Positivity Project (P2) helps students build positive relationships to become their best selves by teaching 24 character strengths, such as kindness, bravery, perseverance, integrity, and gratitude.  These strengths help students recognize their own strengths, understand others, and navigate life’s challenges.  P2 is a school-wide program for Pre-K – 12 students.  Each week focuses on a different character strength through short, age-appropriate daily lessons.

Students learn through discussions, examples, activities, and opportunities to practice each strength.  The program also encourages a partnership between students, educators, and families by creating a common language around character strengths and positive relationships.

Why Character Strengths Matter

By consistently teaching students about character strengths, they learn to recognize these strengths in themselves and others. This builds self-awareness, confidence, empathy, and stronger relationships.  As students continue through school, their understanding of character strengths grows. The strengths become part of their everyday vocabulary and influence how they view themselves, their peers, and the world around them.  The Positivity Project empowers students by reminding them that all 24 character strengths are already within them. They can learn to recognize and use these strengths—not only at school, but throughout their lives.  Ultimately, P2 helps create more positive interactions, stronger relationships, and a positive school culture where teachers can teach, and students can learn.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Trainings

PRESENTED BY THE BURKE CENTER

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (ages 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis.  Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people.  The course introduces common mental health challenges among youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for helping young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.  Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including ADHD), and eating disorders.
