From LHS to 911: Senior Meyah Escobedo Interns with Sheriff’s Office

LHS Senior Meyah Escobedo is working as an intern at the Polk County Sheriff's Department in the Telecommunications department from February through April. This internship program is part of the Law Enforcement PRACTICUM at LHS, in partnership with the Polk County Sheriff's Department.
Meyah is a fourth-year criminal justice student and works at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office every day. To get started each day, she logs into telecommunications software used in 911 applications, which is CAD and FOX. She takes walk-ins and creates call cards. She recently earned her CJIS Security and Privacy Certification and was named February's Student Lion LEADER, an LISD program that celebrates individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership and service with the district.
While at LHS, Meyah has earned CTE dual credit hours in Criminal Justice through Lamar State College - Orange.
She shares, “I’m learning more and more every day and getting more confident navigating the system at the Sheriff's Office. I’ll be taking 911 calls as soon as I continue progressing in my training. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow in this field.”
